Minimally invasive
Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive treatment for prostate cancer. Instead of the conventional incision below the bellybutton as used for an open radical prostatectomy, the surgery is done via keyhole instruments via small incisions, with a slightly larger incision to remove the prostate.
Robotic surgery is commonplace throughout the world. There is no evidence that it provides a better cancer control operation than an open radical prostatectomy. It may provide some advantages in the short term with regards to recovery however.
